FRT course by Dr. Duggan for Bench Exam (a part of DDS in USA series)

Fundamentals in Restorative Techniques Course at Duggan Institute
(a part of DDS in USA series)

The program is designed to familiarize dentists from overseas or the U.S with concepts and skills associated with conservative dentistry. Preparation design is discussed in detail, as are methods and strategies for performing these preparations with confidence, skill and speed. The course is hands-on for a major portion of its entirety, which evidently empowers the student with more practice and perfection.

The course is overwhelming initially, but very fascinating and intuitive along side. The course is spread out over a period of two weeks, where the class begins each day at 7 am and one can practice up till 8 pm, depending on how determined you are to learn and make the most of the course.

Aspects covered during this Restorative technique course include:
  • Class 2 Amalgam Preparations
  • Class 2 Composite Restorations
  • Occlusal & Axial Reduction for Posterior Gold Crowns
  • Ceramometal Crown preps
  • Class 3 Composite Preparations
  • Full Ceramic Crown
  • Gold Onlay Prep

Each aspect is first taught theoretically by Dr. Duggan himself, he then demonstrates and gives shape to all that theoretical matter over onto a mannequin head. Ninety percent of the reductions are accomplished in indirect vision, without which the precision on a scale of millimeters would be impossible to achieve. Most Pakistani dentists are not accustomed to performing restorative procedures using indirect vision, this course however teaches you how to work with indirect vision as your weapon of choice and builds up your confidence.

This program is mainly designed to teach the necessary skills to foreign graduates who wish to practice in the United States of America. Majority of dental schools require foreign applicants to sit through a bench exam before they can be shortlisted for the interview and finally acceptance. But this course is recommended for anyone who intends to nourish up their dental skills, evidently resulting in a more flourishing and successful clinical practice. The course also gives you the opportunity to get an insight into the different schools and their requirements regarding the ‘Advanced Standing Program’.  Other than that you also get the opportunity to meet people belonging from different ethnicities and races.
