How to reduce photo size to 25 kb

One common trial before the actual tests and interviews of Punjab Public Service Commission is filling out the application form. For the *air quotes* ease of the applicants and to challenge their common sense as much as is possible, the application form is made as illogical and difficult to fill as is possible.

One of the common problems that the applicants encounter is the requirement to upload pictures not more than 25 kb in size. With today's technology, it is almost impossible for any original picture to be of this size. Therefore the candidates, specially the computer novices, are left confused with what to do with this. While there are many applications to resize the photo to any desired size, it is not easy for everyone and therefore I am writing the easiest way available for windows computers (our everyday computers) to resize the photo to below 25 kb or to any size.

We are going to use Paint. It comes installed with the Windows package in all Windows computers to my knowledge and no installation or any extra step beforehand is necessary.

STEP ONE
Right click the image that you want to resize. Move the cursor to Open with

STEP TWO
From the options choose Paint (Microsoft Paint). This will open the image in Paint.

STEP THREE
In Paint, locate Resize on the left side of the top navigation bar as shown in the pic below. Click it.

STEP FOUR
A resize window will pop up as shown below. Make sure the 'Maintain Aspect Ratio' box is checked and percentage is selected. Click the horizontal dimensions box to change the percentage.

STEP FIVE
Type from anywhere between 5 to 80 depending upon how much you want to decrease the size of the image. A larger file will require a smaller value and possible multiple attempts. In the example below, we are resizing a image at 100 to only 10. This changed a 260 kb image file to 24 kb as you will see later. You may have to repeat this step a couple of times until you get your desired results in kbs.

STEP SIX
After selecting a value (like 10 in this example), press Ok to close the pop-up window. You will see your image is resized to a smaller version. Press the Save file icon at the top left corner (floppy disk), and close the Paint application.

STEP SEVEN
Check the size of the image in the folder. If its below 25 kb (or your desired size), you are good to go. If it still is larger than required, then repeat steps one to six until to reach the desired size.

Below is a video of the whole process to clear any ambiguity.
